What you need to know about Chicago pediatric dentists
CHICAGO — Chicago pediatric dentist Robert McElroy has been named the recipient of the National Dental Society’s John B. Bancroft Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching, Medicine, and Service to Children.
McElroy is credited with helping to shape the profession’s practice to the needs of pediatric dentontists in the early 1990s.
The award, given to dentists who have “made significant contributions to improving the quality of dental care and patient care in Chicago,” was presented Friday at the Dental Association of America annual meeting in Chicago.
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this award,” McElroys’ family said in a statement.
“I know that this award will help us continue to achieve the same excellence that we have for over 50 years.”
The award recognizes a dentist who has “helped the profession achieve its goal of improving the dental care of children in the community,” the association said.
McGrady, an emeritus professor of pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, was named a finalist for the award in 2013.
McElry won the honor in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
McEllary was also recognized in 2016 for his leadership in improving the education of dentists in his state.
McLaurin, who is a member of the Chicago Board of Dentistry, is credited for “providing high-quality dental care for Chicagoans in the 1970s and 80s,” according to the DDS website.
McLeary was a board member of Chicago Public Schools’ board of trustees and director of the Illinois Dental Medical Center from 1978 to 1988.
McMillen has been a member for 22 years.
McKenzie, who has been dean of the College of Dentry at Chicago Teachers College, was nominated for the honor three times.
She received the honor last year for her contributions to the college’s student dental program, which has more than 400 students.
McMurray, a professor of clinical and population health at the University of California, San Francisco, was also honored for his “extraordinary commitment” to improving education for Chicago children.
McNeill was named the inaugural recipient of DDS’ John Bancros for Excellence award in 2016.
The recipient of that award is recognized for “his leadership and service to the profession, as well as his outstanding service as an educator, teacher and community leader,” the organization said in the statement.
McNamara, a member and director at the Children’s Hospital of Chicago, was a consultant on the NBC show “The Voice.”
McNulty, who was a professor at Northwestern’s Feinberg school of medicine, was appointed to the Illinois Board of Health in 2008.
McWicker, who teaches dental surgery at the Northwestern University School of Dentition, was the first African American to hold that position.
McWilliams, a clinical professor of dentistry at Northwestern, was president of the American Dental Assn.
from 1999 to 2002.
McWoods, a physician and professor of medicine at the College to Prevent Cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Evanston, was awarded the American College of Oral Pathologists’ National Medal of Honor in 2012.
McGowan, a dental surgeon who serves as director of dental surgery and clinical director at Northwestern and director and assistant professor of dental pathology at Northwestern Children’s hospital, was elected to the board of the Society for Dental Research in 2007.
McMahon was elected the first Black female president of University of Chicago Medicine in 2004.
McKinney, a founding member of Northwestern’s board of health, was on the faculty of the University at Buffalo for five years from 1992 to 2000.
McLeod, a resident scholar of the U.S. Department of Defense, was an adviser to the president of Northrop Grumman during the Iran-Contra scandal.
McLeish, a pediatrician who served as director and associate professor of preventive medicine at Northwestern Medicine, also served as an adviser for the president, director of research, and chief medical officer.
McLucas, a senior associate dean at Northwestern School of Veterinary Medicine, has been on the board since 2009.
McMeel, a fellow of the School of Nursing and Public Health at Northwestern College of Medicine and associate dean of nursing sciences, was vice president for academic affairs for the University Hospitals of Chicago.
McNeil, a visiting professor of epidemiology at the School for Social Work and Health Policy at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, was honored with the National Medal for Service in 2013 and the National Leadership Award in 2014.
McNeese, a retired professor of public health at Northwestern Health, was given the Distinguished Service Award by the National Center for Public Health Research in 2012 for her work in public health policy.
McRae, a former president of Northwestern, is an author, speaker and health researcher who has published over 30 books.
