How to Get the Best Out of Your Dentures
The American Dental Association says that you should never go into dental work expecting the best care, especially if you have braces.
If you have them, you should take advantage of them and practice the best possible care, it says in a report that is aimed at dentists.
The ADA says that if you want to make dental care a positive experience for your patients, you must do the following: Be comfortable with your appearance and behavior.
When you see a patient, be present and acknowledge them.
Ask questions, share stories and let them know that they are welcome to come back and see you again.
Take breaks when necessary to allow your body to heal.
If your patient needs an exam or treatment, be ready to offer an alternative to your routine.
“It’s a personal choice,” says Dr. Daniel DeMarche, chief medical officer of the American Dinal Association.
“If you don’t like the appearance of your patients and don’t want to go to the dentist, there are other options that you have.”
A list of recommended treatments, along with some of the problems and side effects, are found here.
Dentists can also try using a home dental kit or an airbrushed enamel or porcelain plaque.
The American Medical Association says dental implants are a great alternative to braces, because they don’t require an additional procedure and can be used as a replacement for braces.
“These can be more comfortable, easier to use and are easier to clean,” DeMarch says.
A report on dental care published in the March issue of the journal JAMA Pediatrics found that a woman with an incision on her cheek and a brace on her neck had the best dental health, but a woman who didn’t have braces had the worst dental health.
A woman who had braces had lower levels of the disease that is common in people with braces and an increased risk of developing a serious infection, such as a cyst, infection or abscess, the report found.
DeMarches recommendation for dentists is to have patients come back for a follow-up visit once they feel better.
If the results of that visit are not satisfactory, dentists can refer patients to a primary care dentist.
He also says that when patients have trouble returning, they should contact their insurance company to see what their options are.
DeMarian says that the AAP and the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommend that dentists take advantage in their practice of good oral hygiene.
“Dentists should not allow themselves to be the only ones to blame for dental problems,” he says.
“They should be the ones who are taking care of patients and making sure that they have the best and safest treatments possible.”
